FLORIDA LEGAL FORMS

Florida lawyer Jim Martin has been drafting legal forms for many years as part of his law practice. He wrote 7 volumes of forms books for West Publishing (now Thomson Reuters). In addition to writing legal forms books, Martin created legal forms for use in his own private law practice in Pinellas County, Florida. His forms drafting process has been adapted to wills, trusts, probate, real estate, construction, employment, litigation, corporation and other legal forms used by Florida lawyers. (Jim Martin also teaches a class in Legal Drafting at Stetson University College of Law.)

ABOUT LEGAL FORMS BY FLORIDA LAWYER JIM MARTIN

Jim Martin's first book of legal forms "LOM's Corporations System Manual" was written in 1981 to assist Florida lawyers in drafting legal documents to form and maintain Florida corporations. It included over 70 corporate document forms, which were automated with merge codes.  The book was sold to West Publishing, America's premier law book company and owner of the Westlaw online legal research service. West published Martin's corporate forms in 1984 as "Florida Corporations System", the first volume in West's Automated Practice Series.

The next legal forms book Martin wrote for West was "Nonprofit Corporations and Associations" in volume 29 of West's Legal Forms, the set of forms books that West sells throughout the nation. The forms were similar to his Florida corporations forms, but were directed to nonprofit corporations rather than business corporations and addressed all 50 states rather than just Florida.

In 1990 West's "Florida Legal Forms" was published in 9 volumes, 6 of which Martin were authored or co-authored by Jim Martin:  Real Estate Transactions (purchase, sale, deeds, easements, condos, mortgages, leases, construction, and management); Business Organizations (corporations, partnerships and LLCs co-authored with Tampa lawyer Greg Yadley); and Specialized Forms (contracts, entertainment, agency, dispute resolution, employment, releases, advertising, gifts, intellectual property, etc.). Martin updated the forms annually with pocket parts from 1990 to 1995 when West ceased publication of the set due to its acquisition of Lawyers Co-op and their competing FlaJur Forms, for which Martin wrote the annual pocket parts.

From 1984 to 2004, Martin wrote the annual pocket parts and revised editions for "Nonprofit Corporations and Associations", including the 2004 Fourth Edition, expanding over the years from being a portion of the volume to being the entire 765-page volume.
